🤝 What I’ve learned about networking
Simple and extremely powerful for creating meaningful connections
🆙 Potential connections are everywhere: colleagues from the other departments, professionals at the conferences, events, or educational courses!
Your professional value benefits from these connections, just make one step forward!
🆙Networking is an incredibly underestimated and influential resource to career acceleration, especially abroad. These “weak connections” help people get this unposted job or find an investor, or even be invited to a community. Let’s learn it!
🆙 A couple of years ago I thought that people that are good networkers are trained communicators or talented public speakers. And, of course, native speakers. Now I know that is very far from the truth!
🆙 I remember my first Young Leaders conference that changed my mind: I (without any training) successfully connected with a plenty of talented professionals, even many years later my career benefits from that networking. I added a couple of things to my networking approach to accelerate it: LinkedIn research and fun!
Now I know more than that.
✨LinkedIn research — is the essential networking ingredient.
✨The magic elements of networking are curiosity and genuineness.
😈I can’t name how many opportunities were open to me due to exciting conversations. How many life-changing connections started with just one question out of curiosity or sharing something near the coffee point. That is how I met my best friend at Uber. That is how I got stuffed for a new team at McKinsey. That is how I got my dream job.
😈Recently, I talked with the head of people at the prominent company that happened to mention on Linkedin his sports career. We discussed how our sports skills (I have an athlete background too) empowered relationships at work, we played a couple of jokes and he remembered me because of this conversation! Seem like magic:)
😈 Know your opponent. Right before the conversation with a new person, do your homework: check out Linkedin. What do you have in common? Education, sport, volunteer experience? What did you found out interesting? Ask about it and discuss it! Please tell people if you are fascinated by something, but avoid cliche about apparent topics.
😈 Be genuine! Nothing inspires people more than genuineness curiosity! Share your emotions too and be open.
😉 Ask questions and avoid cliche, people will appreciate!
🥤And buy drinks, everyone remembers!
